Job Purpose

Oversee and manage the entire spectrum of asset risk and recovery operations. This position involves monitoring, leading, and training staff in asset risk management while also managing recovery activities related to collections, repossessions, and client relationships. Ensures smooth day-to-day operations while also overseeing the assigning of tasks, maintaining effective client relationships, and handling emergency cases. 

Responsibilities and Duties

Asset Risk 

  • Liaise with relevant departs such as Collection, GPS, Commercial and Registration as well as clients to achieve set goals.
  • Observe, analyze, and offer suggestions on current operations.
  • Schedule meetings and training sessions with staff, Heads of departments and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and onboarding processes of new Recovery and Asset Risk staff.
  • Establish professional relationships with clients, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Build and nurture healthy relationships with key partners like the police, bike riders union and key community member
  • Monitor that health and safety, as well as company regulations are followed by staff at all times.
  • Liaise with staff and organize team-building events that take everyone's needs into account.
  • Conduct research, write reports, and present findings to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships with clients and find creative ways to expand the organization.
  • Attend workshops, lectures, and training sessions wherever possible.
  • Evaluate staff performance against targets regularly and give objective recommendations.
  • Ensure staff are disciplined and adhere to company policy
  • Represent the company's interest after meetings with stakeholders especially where activities are affected such as Okada, SLRSA and police security meetings
  • Establish a robust network in the country with all stakeholders in recovery from okada leaders, local administration and police, and keep a database of the contacts by mobilising staff to collect the contacts

Collections

  • Supervise and monitor assigned repossession cases
  • Support with the negotiating of payment from the client where required. 
  • Where the client is unable to make a payment refer to Repossession 
  • Monitor sign agreed on payment plans as per Watu collection policy
  • Check that tickets are submitted to the Recovery Daily Submission file and attach the loan collection agreement.
  • Prompt Recovery Officers to check that the client’s tracker is working and if not - request that the client goes to a branch to have it repaired or replaced.

Repossession (Where the client is unable to make a payment refer to Repossession)

  • Supervise and review assigned repossession cases
  • Support the Recovery Officers with possible escalations where the Park Chairman or police assistance is required when repossessing the asset where the client is unable to make payment
  • Monitor ROs to ensure sign-off of the Repo Form in duplicate.
  • Monitor that relevant tickets are submitted to the Recovery Daily Submission file with the attached  Repo Form and pictures of the bike. 
  • monitor and ensure all repossessed bikes are delivered to the Watu warehouse and are duly ticketed. 
 

Emergency Cases/Client Rider Issues

  • Assign all emergency cases to the relevant RO team
  • Monitor prompt response by the RO 
  • Assist the RO with coordination by communicating with Okada stakeholders and police to recover the stolen asset
  • Support the RO with the investigations of the recovery of the stolen asset 
 

Networking and building relationships 

  • Visit parks, police stations and other relevant stakeholders to maintain and build effective networks.
  • Create a professional working relationship with the contacts’ office holders to get assistance when necessary, in the course of work
  • Monitor and assist with the collecting, updating and verification of relevant contact information for assistance in the course of work. (Park Chairman, police, local administration and other required stakeholders)
 

Petty Cash Management

  • Request your agreed petty cash float
  • Monitor and control ROs petty cash management of agreed float 
  • Submit claims once 75% of your allocation has been spent which will allow you to always have a float.
  • Manage your petty cash efficiently allowing for maximum output and cost savings 
 

People & Leadership Skills 

  • Conduct mid-year performance appraisals, annual performance appraisals and monthly 1-1s as per Watu performance management cycle. 
  • Lead, coach, motivate, inspire and develop others to create an environment that fosters teamwork and cooperation
  • Identify the team's training needs and ensure team members obtain the appropriate training and support.
  • Develop creative ways to keep employees motivated and encourage teams to work to achieve their set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Identify and recommend new ways of working to continuously improve efficiency, productivity and both our internal and external customer experience.
  • Cascade communication on any changes in policies, schedules and product knowledge to the team.
  • Lead, attend and participate in team meetings
  • Address and resolve team conflicts and maintain a professional work environment that is values-based.

Qualifications

Education level: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a Business-related field.

Experience:  

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the debt recovery and asset finance industry & relevant degrees, certificates, and licenses may be required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in debt recovery asset finance or lending 
  • Must have a driver's license.
  • Must have a certificate of good conduct (police clearance)
  • Must be good in Excel and Google Sheets
  • Must have good negotiation skills.
  • Offer necessary training to new officers on Fraud, Special Cases & Normal operations

Technical skills: (Technical skills typically require using specific tools and the technologies needed to use those tools.)
