Role Purpose

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for Watu’s financial procedures, records and statements for compliance with laws and regulations. He/She will be required to work closely with company leadership and other finance professionals to reconcile accounts and review quarterly or annual reports. As well as help prepare information for external accounting audits and contact clients or business partners to ask about missed payments

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
  • Completes external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors.
  • Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups.
  • Protects the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Trains and manages junior accountants and other department on Finance related matters
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the management.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Education level: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a similar major is required
  • Certifications: Certified public accountants (CPA) strongly preferred
  • Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in accounting or finance in a reputable organization.

Technical skills:

  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets
  • Proven knowledge of auditing standards and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Experience in working with data and data manipulation tools is an added advantage

Behavioral skills: 

  • Ability to perform under pressure, handle heavy workloads, and meet stringent reporting deadlines 
  • Ability to work as part of an effective dynamic team 
  • Ability to work unsupervised and maintain motivation
  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism and independence in the execution of duties with the highest level of integrity and quality
  • Ability to handle sensitive company information and maintain confidentiality.
